VTH3 Trail #098: A Very Merry Lughnasadh

  • 660 Colchester Pond Road Colchester, Vermont, 05446 United States (map)

When: Saturday, August 1, 2026, 1:00 PM HST
Where: Colchester Pond, 660 Colchester Pond Rd, Colchester, VT 05446
Hares: Just Rebecca and Redtail Swallows
What to bring: $6.9 hash cash, swimsuits for trail, towels for after trail, floaties, bug spray, sun spray, anti-horse fly cranium covers, and creepy porcelain dolls to fuel the Lughnasadh flames

August 1st is Lughnasadh, which is a Celtic fire festival marking the start of the harvest season. Apparently, the festival is named after the Celtic sun god Lugh, who is highly skilled in arts and crafts. According to Irish mythology, Lugh established the holiday as a funeral feast and athletic competition to honor his foster mother, Tailtiu, who died after clearing the land for agriculture. Brutal. It typically features bonfires to honor the sun's slow retreat and bless the gathering of grains, fruits, and berries. And this year, Lughnasadh will feature Just Rebecca’s virgin lay with her co-hare Redtail!

Our harvest festival trail starts (and hopefully ends) at the Colchester Pond parking lot at the end of Colchester Pond Road right in Colchester. Wear your swimsuit to trail because there will be plenty of opportunities to splash around. On-after will be nearby at Chez Redtail with pizza and burgers—bring your own post-trail bevies as well as a snack, side, or dessert for bonus points. The bonfire in honor of Lugh will begin one hour after sundown, so make sure to bring your creepiest porcelain doll to fuel the cleansing flames.
