It’s America’s big birthday and if you’re around, join Nut Hut H3 to celebrate the annual tradition of a trail free of tyrants. 👑 This trail will have everything you’d expect from a Herp and Salty trail: bushwhacking, thorns, water crossings, poor marks, and lots of blood-sucking mosquitoes. 🦟 Finish off your trail with a dip in Niquette Bay which shouldn’t be filled with a lovely green algae unlike another recently infamous body of water. 🦠🫡 America!
Trail starts earlier at 11 AM to give you more time to celebrate freedom and begins at the Mallets Creek Wildlife Management Area somewhere in Colchester. The internet doesn’t even give a real addresses and just says it’s on Coon Hill Road which is weird since that street is across the road from the parking lot. So in classic Vermont fashion, you’ll have to rely on directions just like it’s still 1776:
Take the highway north to the Islands exit, and bang a left at the end of the off-ramp. Hopefully the construction is done. At the next light, take a right. As soon as you clear that insane intersection, you’ll pass Simon’s and then the road drops down a big, long hill. Look off to your right as you're heading down and you’ll see the muddy swamp you’ll be hashing through. Yup, that’s where you are going. There also should be a kennel on your left with a cute little sign. Right at the very bottom of the hill, keep your eyes peeled on the right-hand side for a small, gravel parking area and a tiny sign for it. Shouldn’t be too hard to miss but then again, who knows with this crew. If you cross over a small bridge with a creek running underneath, you went too far and need to turn around. Good luck.
